Subscribers and deployed soldiers

Also get the entire News-Journal online

The truth is the Post Office does a great job getting our paper to our readers in and around Hoke County. Farther away, not so much. Because of this, we're offering our subscribers a way to read The News-Journal as soon as it's published.

We've been waiting to offer the paper as a PDF file until computers and software evolved to the point it's feasible, and until many readers have the necessary high-speed Internet access. We think the time is here.

We're not able to be all fancy smancy, so what we'll do is ask you if you'd like to have access this way, fill out this brief form with your subscriber name and address (yes, you must be a subscriber or a deployed soldier). We'll add you to our email list, and each week we'll email you the link to the paper as soon as it's published -- probably by 1 p.m. on Wednesdays. (You'll still get your printed copy.)

The link will take you to a page where you can download The News-Journal -- probably about 5-6 megabytes, total – and read it in your PDF viewer (free Adobe Acrobat Reader; your web browser; or Preview for Mac users)

To test it, and see if it's worth your time, the October 10 issue is here (free). Mac users, control-click icon, select download linked file. PC users, heaven help you.
